Innocent rescue animals impacted by bad faith use of social media: Attention animal lovers, horse enthusiasts and devoted equine advocates: Results from recent studies about a trend in recent changes in the use of social media have been reported and the findings by professionals in the animal welfare and equine rescue movements are extremely concerning. There has been a stark increase in bad faith activities and other uses of social media by 3rd parties that disregard the safety and welfare of rescue animals, especially horses and burros that have been saved from the slaughter and roundup pipelines. While some internet providers and social media websites are diligent in enforcing terms of service meant to protect against hate speech, and other forms of abuse and harassment, recent findings indicate that oftentimes relief and or resolve for those targeted may not be attainable until well after the damages are done. In the meantime, the trend continues to impact numerous reputable rescue organizations across the country and sadly the fall out directly impacts countless innocent animals whose safety, lives and welfare hang in the balance.

WFLF is dedicated to advancing our compassionate animal protection mission, including our humane educational programming and WFLF's provision of animal rescue and sanctuary services.

On January 19, 2017, in response to anonymous false reports and unfounded allegations against Wild for Life Foundation, Sgt. Huennekens of the Riverside County Animal Care and Control promptly inspected the horses in the care and custody of Wild for Life Foundation and issued the following statement. "All of the animals are in good weight. The paint horse with the bad knee came to the rescue several years ago in its present condition and is on previcox for any discomfort. The dark bay horse shown, in the photographs was in excellent condition with no signs of any health issues. All of the pens the horses are kept in are in good condition and are of adequate size. The horse with the large hernia was bright, alert, and appeared to be in otherwise good condition. Case closed, Sgt. Huennekens."
