2013 YTD: January - December 2013

Equine Program YTD Summary:

In 2013, the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) served and managed a total of approximately 58 equines through its animal rescue and sanctuary program. WFLF paid for the care and housing for the majority of these equines (both wild and domestic horses and burros).

WFLF housed and cared for up to a total of approximately 31 wild and domestic horses and burros at two facilities in Southern California. WFLF provided emergency aid and crisis intervention for many surrendered domestic horses and several groups of imperiled Mustangs who had become displaced and in life threatening danger. The expenses paid by WFLF through the course of this crisis intervention included costs for hay, medical care, transport, placement, primary care and animal housing. WFLF expanded it safe haven network of accredited recovery facilities to enable acceptance of approximately 39 wild and domestic equines, including orphan foals, several pregnant and nursing mares, nursing foals, and special needs horses (e.g. starvation victims, injured and abused equines).

Throughout the year 2013, hay and feed was the highest expense under WFLF’s equine rescue and sanctuary program. WFLF’s year end total costs paid for for hay, feed and supplements exceeded $37,400.00. To learn more about WFLF's overall impact and accomplishments please visit our Impact page >>

Approximately 99-100% of the funds received and spent by WFLF in 2012 went directly to costs for charitable programming. (Roughly 54% paid for outreach and education expenses to raise awareness and compassion for the protection of equines from roundups, slaughter and other forms of cruelty, 22% paid for hay and feed for victimized animals directly served and aided by WFLF, 14% paid for shelter, rents, utilities, stable equipment & transport expenses for rescue animals directly served through WFLF, 9% paid for animal medical and health care expenses, and less than 1% paid for administrative costs including licensing, compliance and general fundraising expenses.

Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF) is a federally registered grassroots all volunteer nonprofit charity established for the prevention of cruelty to animals with a focus on animal welfare and the protection of wildlife. Among our greatest concerns are imperiled wild horses and burros, abused, neglected and slaughter bound wild and domestic equines, and inadequate standards of protection for America’s equine population as a whole. We vigorously work to save, protect and preserve abused, neglected, displaced and slaughter bound wild and domestic equines, and educate to raise compassion and improve the standards of protection for America’s equine populations.

WFLF works in conjunction with law enforcement agencies and provides emergency and transitional shelter housing and primary care for abused, neglected, injured and homeless animals in need. The WFLF promotes the protection and preservation of wild horses and burros on their Native lands together with the preservation of natural ecosystems and wildlife. The WFLF is achieving these goals through operating lifesaving animal rescue, sanctuary, rehabilitation, preservation, educational, advocacy and protection programs that foster symbiotic environmental stewardship and healing partnerships between people and animals.
